How to choose a recital and plan your flamenco route
With 19 events spread over two days, the best choice depends on where you are and the kind of experience you are looking for.
If you are in Jerez
It has the greatest concentration: two performances on Friday and four on Saturday. You can build the entire weekend around the city and compare the atmosphere at different peñas.
If you are in Cádiz or the Bay
On Friday there are events in Cádiz and San Fernando, and San Fernando appears again on Saturday. The short distances between towns make it easy to combine a recital with other cultural plans without long journeys.
If you are in the Campo de Gibraltar
Algeciras opens Friday’s programme and San Roque is among Saturday’s venues. David Carpio’s recital in Algeciras is announced for 20:00 at the Centro de Interpretación Paco de Lucía, organised by the Sociedad del Cante Grande.
If you want to discover flamenco beyond the major cities
Algodonales, Olvera, Medina Sidonia, Bornos, Paterna, Trebujena and La Barca de la Florida offer a chance to experience flamenco’s local dimension. In these places, the peña may be one of the town’s main centres of cultural activity.
If you are looking for a particular artist
Always check the Federation calendar. The general line-up tells you who performs each day, but the individual listing is the best source for confirming the peña, address, time and accompanying artists.
