Saturday 12: vineyards in the morning and neighbourhood flamenco at night
Saturday offers some of the best opportunities to expand your trip beyond the festival.
At 10:00, the programme includes the II Ruta entre Viñas vineyard walk, an opportunity to discover the wine-growing landscape around Jerez. If you take part, allow enough time to return and continue with Jerez Fusión: a vineyard outing should not become a rushed activity.
The harvest programme also includes the XI Concurso de Venencia Infantil children’s wine-pouring competition at 11:30 and the final of the blind tasting challenge. These illustrate how wine culture in Jerez extends far beyond tourist winery visits.
But Saturday’s great additional outing for flamenco lovers comes at night. The Verbena Flamenca de la Asunción takes place on 12 September from 20:00, opposite La Asunción shopping centre, with free admission until capacity is reached.
The singers are Antonio Flores Uño, Eva del Cristo, Ángel Rayo, José de la Lela, María José Bernal, Pescaílla de Jerez, Juan de la María and Luis Moneo. Guitarists include Agustín de la Fuente, Manuel Jero, Jesús Agarrado “El Guardia”, Jesús Rodríguez, Juan Manuel Moneo and Santiago Moreno, with José de Cantarote and Ángel Peña providing rhythmic handclaps.
Do not assume that the Verbena will automatically fit around any Saturday Jerez Fusión performance. Check times and distances first. If your evening is free, however, it is an excellent chance to experience flamenco in a very different setting: a neighbourhood gathering in an area with a strong flamenco identity.
