Flamenco competitions remain one of the main gateways into the professional circuit for singers, dancers and guitarists in 2026. Some are linked to historic festivals; others are organised by peñas, foundations or local councils and serve as promotion platforms for young artists and highly accomplished amateurs.
In this guide we bring together the main flamenco competitions in Spain in 2026 with dates, disciplines, prizes, entry status and, when the competition has already ended, its winners. The information was reviewed on 23 September 2026 and will be updated as new calls for entries or results are confirmed.
If you are beginning to explore the repertoire in greater depth, our guide to flamenco palos can help you better understand many of the styles required by the rules of these competitions.

Important: not all competitions work in the same way. Some admit professionals, others are aimed at amateurs or people under a certain age, and many exclude those who have already won the top prize in previous editions. Always read the full rules before entering.
The competition at the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas, in La Unión, remains one of flamenco’s major competitive benchmarks. In 2026 it included categories for singing, guitar, dance and flamenco instrumentalist as part of the festival’s 65th edition, held from 29 July to 8 August.
The final produced several standout names. Rafa del Calli won the Lámpara Minera, the highest singing award, worth €15,000. In dance, Lucía La Bronce won the Desplante; Pablo Barrionuevo won the Bordón Minero for guitar and Karlos Nao won the Filón in the instrumentalist category.
The importance of the competition does not depend only on prize money. Winning or reaching a final in La Unión means exposure to programmers, critics, artists and aficionados from different countries. That is why it remains one of the calls that can most transform a participant’s career.

The Festival Internacional de Cante Flamenco de Lo Ferro, in the Murcian municipality of Torre Pacheco, held its 46th edition in 2026. Its singing competition once again centred on the Melón de Oro, which carried a €17,000 prize this year.
The winner was Córdoba-born Francisco Ocón Cuadrado, who won the final with soleá, alegrías de Córdoba and petenera. The competition also awarded prizes by singing groups and a specific recognition for the ferreña. The organisers announced a total prize fund of €33,500.
Lo Ferro has an interesting feature for anyone studying flamenco competitions: it does not reward only a single performance, but the ability to handle different stylistic groups. That breadth of repertoire demands especially solid preparation.
In 2026, the Fundación Cristina Heeren held the tenth edition of its Concursos Talento Flamenco, aimed at young performers and covering three main areas: singing, dance and guitar.
In singing, first prize in the Naranjito de Triana went to Luis Ortega. In dance, Manuel Jiménez won the Manolo Soler competition. In accompaniment guitar, first prize went to Francisco Sánchez Alcalá, while the solo guitar scholarship went to Fran Tarí Segarra.
The distinctive value of these competitions is educational. In addition to cash prizes, scholarships allow winners to continue their studies at the Foundation’s Centro Superior de Arte Flamenco. For artists aged 16 to 30, this can offer a very different route from traditional competitions: less focused on one major trophy and more closely linked to training, mentoring and professional development.
The finals were held at venues in Seville and Utrera. If you plan to attend future editions, you can consult our selection of flamenco tablaos in Seville and combine the competition with an evening of professional flamenco.
The Concurso de Aficionados Flamencos Villa de Guillena, organised by the local council and Peña Flamenca La Rivera, once again offered singing and dance categories in 2026, as well as a special prize for young flamenco artists.
The singing final was held on 10 April. Enrique Afanador, from Trebujena, won first prize in the general competition, while Julia La Debla won the special Young Flamenco Artists award.
Competitions of this kind perform an essential function: they create an intermediate circuit between training, peñas and the major national contests. For many singers, gaining experience in public qualifying rounds is as important as the prize itself.
Huétor Tájar once again held its Concurso Nacional de Cante Flamenco Espárrago de Oro, organised by Peña Cultural Flamenca Juan Pinilla with municipal support.
The 2026 rules divided the repertoire into several singing groups and also required Graná styles. First prize was worth €1,200 plus a trophy, with additional prizes for the next placed competitors and for the performance of granaínas.
The winner of the 2026 edition was Seville-born Jesús de León Márquez, from Mairena del Alcor. Beyond the prize money, the interest of this competition lies in its repertoire demands and its links with Granada’s flamenco community.
Peña La Parra Flamenca in Huétor Vega organised the second edition of its Singing and Accompaniment Guitar Competition. It is especially interesting because it specifically recognises the work of the accompanying guitarist, a fundamental figure who does not always receive a separate category in competitions.
The competition began with qualifying rounds in February and held its grand final on 17 July as part of the Huétor Vega Flamenco Festival. The rules established prizes of €1,500, €1,200 and €1,000 for singing, a €1,000 «Miguel Ochando» prize for accompaniment guitar and another €750 prize for Graná singing styles.
For young or professional guitarists who want to measure their accompaniment skills specifically, this format is especially valuable: the judges assess not only solo playing, but also listening, adaptation and dialogue with the singer.
Mérida launched a new competition in 2026: the I Concurso Nacional de Cante Flamenco Ciudad de Mérida «La Pinona». The first edition was held on 30 May at the bullring with twelve selected participants from Extremadura and Andalusia.
As a first edition, it is a competition to watch in 2027. New calls can be particularly interesting for artists looking for events with less competitive history and the chance to become part of a competition’s story from the beginning.

The Concurso de Cante Jondo Ciudad de La Llagosta, in Barcelona, reached its 41st edition in 2026. The preliminary rounds were scheduled for 8, 15 and 29 May, with the grand final on 13 June.
Its presence in this guide matters because it shows that the map of flamenco competitions is not limited to Andalusia or Murcia. Catalonia has for decades maintained peñas, associations and competitions linked to flamenco singing, reflecting a deeply rooted flamenco tradition in many towns around metropolitan Barcelona.
The Ciudad del Sol de Lorca celebrates its 35th edition in 2026. Registration closed on 4 September, but the competition is still fully under way: qualifying rounds will be held on Saturdays 12, 19 and 26 September and 3 October.
The final stage will take place from 15 to 17 October at the Auditorio Margarita Lozano. The main prizes are the Sol de Oro, worth €4,000; the Sol de Plata, worth €2,500; and the Sol de Bronce, worth €1,500, plus runner-up prizes.
It is one of the competitions worth following during autumn 2026 because, unlike other major summer contests, its winners have not yet been decided.
The Concurso Nacional de Cante Flamenco Ciudad de Carmona closed entries on 12 September 2026. The competition is organised by the Asociación Cultural Flamenca Amigos de la Guitarra and has two sections: General and Young Performers.
The announced competition date is 1 October, so the 2026 edition is now awaiting its scheduled date. New applications can no longer be submitted.
Follow the organiser’s information for participants, times and results when they are published.
Badajoz will host the III Concurso Internacional de Baile Flamenco Jaleos Extremeños, one of the most interesting dance calls in the final part of 2026. According to the official Centro Internacional de Flamenco website, registration closes on 30 September and the grand final gala will take place on 13 November at the Teatro López de Ayala.
First prize is worth €9,000, second prize €4,000 and third prize €2,000. These are joined by training opportunities linked to the Ballet Nacional de España and Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, as well as a professional contract.
For a flamenco dancer, that final element can be just as important as the cash prize: moving from competition to paid work is precisely one of the main aims of contests designed to develop professional careers.
The Rota Fandangos Competition 2026, organised by Peña Rociera Roteña, took place on 18 and 19 September at Palacio Municipal Castillo de Luna.
José Antonio Cuevas Domínguez, from Osuna, won first prize of €1,100. Elisabeth Prior Bolívar, from Utrera, finished second and Javier Mellado Junquero, from Chipiona, took third place.

A clarification is useful to avoid confusion. The Concurso Nacional de Cante Jondo Antonio Mairena kept its historic name in 2026, but this edition was exceptionally presented as «El Concurso hecho festival»: a gala featuring winners from previous years, with no competition between new entrants.
Therefore, although it appears in listings and posters under the traditional competition name, it should not be counted as a competitive 2026 call for entries. This distinction is important for any artist looking for rules and registration information.
There is no single «best» competition for every artist. The choice depends on your professional stage, discipline and repertoire.
It is also useful to prepare videos, an artistic CV, a photograph, identity document and repertoire in advance. More and more competitions carry out an audiovisual preselection before inviting participants to the in-person rounds.
And if you are an artist and would like us to consider you for performances, events or professional projects, you can send us your profile through Work with us.
Competitions have historically been a decisive showcase for many artists. But winning a prize does not guarantee a career by itself. What happens afterwards —repertoire, bookings, festival appearances, work in tablaos, recordings and the ability to build your own name— is just as important.
That is why it is useful to view these competitions not only as a list of winners, but as a map of talent. Artists appearing today in preliminary rounds, semi-finals or finals may join companies, festivals and flamenco tablaos across Spain in the coming years.
At Tablaos Flamencos we will continue updating this guide when new calls appear, registration opens or the results from Carmona, Lorca and Jaleos Extremeños are announced.

Yes. Cante de las Minas includes the Bordón Minero, Fundación Cristina Heeren has solo and accompaniment guitar competitions, and Huétor Vega has a specific prize for accompaniment guitar.
It depends on the rules. Some competitions admit both professionals and amateurs, while others are aimed at emerging artists, amateurs or specific age groups.
Not always. Many competitions provide official guitarists for singers, although some rules allow participants to bring their own accompanist. In other cases, such as Huétor Vega, accompaniment guitar is itself part of the competition.
No. In 2026 it was exceptionally transformed into «El Concurso hecho festival», featuring winners from previous editions and no competition for new entrants.
Always consult the official website of the organising festival, foundation, local council or peña. Dates and requirements can change, so the official call for entries should take precedence over any third-party listing.
Information cross-checked against the official websites of the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas, Festival de Lo Ferro, Fundación Cristina Heeren, Lorca City Council, Guillena City Council, Mérida City Council, Peña La Parra Flamenca and Centro Internacional de Flamenco, as well as specialist flamenco listings used to complete local calls for entries.
