The 24th Seville Flamenco Biennial 2026 does not begin only on the stages.<\/strong> One week before its official opening, the Royal Artillery Factory will host one of the most interesting heritage proposals of this edition: The Blue Night. Flamenco Opera in the Carlos Mart\u00edn Ballester Collection<\/em>, an exhibition conceived to revisit one of the most decisive\u2014and also most debated\u2014periods in the history of flamenco.<\/p>\n

The exhibition can be visited from 2 September to 22 November 2026<\/strong> in the Engraving Hall of Seville\u2019s Royal Artillery Factory. It will bring together around 150 pieces, including posters, photographs, gramophone records, manuscripts, advertising and other documents, along with a selection of historical recordings specially digitised for the occasion.<\/p>\n

This is not simply about looking at old objects. The Blue Night<\/em> sets out to explain how flamenco became a mass phenomenon during the first decades of the 20th century: how it came to fill large theatres and bullrings, how it entered homes through records and radio, and how figures such as La Ni\u00f1a de los Peines, Manuel Vallejo, Pepe Marchena, Pepe Pinto, Ram\u00f3n Montoya, Ni\u00f1o Ricardo and Manolo Caracol helped transform forever the way flamenco was disseminated and reached audiences.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The Blue Night: an exhibition for listening to and looking at Flamenco Opera<\/h2>\n

The exhibition forms part of Other Pearls<\/strong>, the programme of parallel activities through which the Seville Flamenco Biennial extends its presence beyond theatre performances.<\/p>\n

Its full title, The Blue Night. Flamenco Opera in the Carlos Mart\u00edn Ballester Collection<\/em>, neatly sums up the concept: reconstructing an era through the materials that actually circulated at the time. Performance posters, photographs, shellac records, artists\u2019 documents, manuscripts and advertising allow us to see flamenco as an art form, but also as a cultural industry and social phenomenon.<\/p>\n

Sound will be a fundamental part of the experience. The Biennial has announced a selection of historical recordings digitised for the exhibition, allowing visitors to encounter not only the visual world of the period, but also its voices and guitars.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
